By the time Gwendolyn Hooks was 15, she had lived in Naples, Italy, and four different states, mostly on Air Force Bases. Her dad taught her how to read maps during their family Sunday drives. She still enjoys reading maps and traveling. Gwendolyn loves meeting people and learning about other cultures and countries. She has visited Canada, England, and Belgium. She dreams of spending a summer in Bruges, Belgium living in a bed and breakfast while writing her heart book.
Gwendolyn started writing nonfiction books for children because she heard nonfiction was easier to sell than fiction. Not hers. Her first sales were four fiction easy readers published by Bebop Books, Scholastic, and Children’s Press. After selling magazine articles to Highlights and JAKES, she tried her hand at nonfiction again and sold three science books to Rourke Publishing.
