About the Oklahoma Children's Authors and Illustrators Website
We’re so happy to introduce viewers to Oklahoma's site for children's authors and illustrators. In these pages you'll meet some of Oklahoma's most talented and creative people in the field of children’s books.You’ll be able to read quick biographies on each person; learn more about a featured author/illustrator each and every month through a short video and Q&A interview; learn who has a new book coming out and when; how to contact each author and illustrator; find links to their personal websites; discover local and national grants and funding available to help cover the expense of an author/illustrator visit for your event; you'll be able to post questions on our bulletin board and get them answered by real live authors and illustrators throughout the great state of Oklahoma; and much, much more.
History
OCAI first came about because Randy Turney, a teacher and author-coordinator from Elk City mentioned to Darleen Beard that Oklahoma needed a website which provided biographical and contact information on Oklahoma children’s authors and illustrators.Darleen ran with the idea, and with the help of David Riffle, her fiance’, Darleen was able to “Go-Live” with OCAI in April, 2009.
Mission Statement Our mission at the Oklahoma Children’s Authors and Illustrators site is to provide library media specialists, event planners, teachers, parents, and readers of all ages, a central point of information for connecting to Oklahoma children's authors and illustrators.
Vision Our vision is to be a powerful Internet site where viewers will want to visit on a regular basis to find up-to-date information, late-breaking news, interviews, videos, local and national news of interest, and links to each author/illustrator's personal websites and brochures. All interviews, videos, awards, & honors will be archived for easy reference for each and every author/illustrator.
Goal Our goal is to become a central point of contact for the needs and wants of library media specialists, teachers, readers, and event planners who wish to find contact information, late-breaking news, special features for Oklahoma children’s authors and illustrators, and booksellers. We hope if anyone, whether they be in-state or out-of-state, needs to find an Oklahoma author or illustrator, all they’ll need to do is open our website to find the person they are looking for, as well as meet up-and-coming new authors and illustrators.
Objectives We wish to bring people together in support of reading, art, and education and to provide exposure for authors, illustrators, and book sellers throughout the state of Oklahoma.
